Minimal changes to the site
In this week’s process post, I will be talking about some minimal, yet big changes I made to my site after receiving a constructive review from my peer, Adam.
Adam runs LifeOf2326 and what he does as a hobby, is similar to what I do. We both focus on renovation and designs in different ways. As Adam had mentioned in his peer review about my site, he had suggested that I had a misleading front page and menu. I totally agreed with his point about my front page and my menu being misleading and hard to follow when he had looked at my website. That’s when I knew it was time to make some changes to my site to make it look more professional, and to make navigating easier for my audience.
Even though we tried making changes to my website a couple times during tutorial time, there was something wrong with it which I couldn’t figure out what it is, let alone how to fix it. I was also having difficulties with how the menus worked and how I could add more pages to my menu. Now that I think about it, I think to myself what a silly problem it was, and how easy it is to take care of those issues which seemed impossible to do when I first started making the site. After receiving these comments from Adam, I started watching Youtube videos and I started searching for people with similar issues as I was experiencing on reddit and I luckily found a lot of interesting and useful information which helped me better learn how to use the tools being offered by WordPress and how to make a better menu which is much easier to navigate through.
The picture attached below shows my front page after making the changes to both the menu and the front page itself. Before making all the changes, I had a huge menu which just listed all the topics, and my background picture and where it was sitting was in a way that wouldn’t really allow the reader to easily see the menu. Having a look at the picture and how my front page looks after making all the changes to the menu option, I can now see more clearly how much this change was needed. Now my menu contains may home, about, Our services and my contact page along with a section which is completely assigned to PUB 101 and all of the material related to the course which makes it easier for my audience to look through.
